5 – Ans: D. Even with subtraction of data, uncertainty is still added, as arithmetic will show by obtaining highest and lowest possible values for x. So, x = 1.27 – 0.83 = 0.44m. Δx = 0.02 + 0.01 = 0.03m. Percentage uncertainty = (0.03 / 0.44) x 100% = 6.8% = 7%.

28 – Ans: A. Deflection is downwards since electric field is from +ve to –ve and the electron would be attracted to the +ve. Here, with the electric field the horizontal velocity remains unchanged but there will be an increase in speed because of the vertical component of velocity given by the electric force to the electron.

31 – Ans: A. Electrons are in random motion, not stationary.

    6. For Q37,
The flow of current is as follows. ‘+’ terminal of battery to slider to point X to voltmeter and finally back to the ‘-’ terminal of the battery. In this circuit, resistor Q can be considered to be short-circuited.
Since the resistance is much greater than the maximum resistance of the potentiometer, the voltmeter reading would stay almost 4V, as shown by the potential divider equation.)
