Question 31
The density of paper is 800 kg m-3. A typical sheet of paper has a width of 210 mm and a length of 300 mm.

The thickness of a pack of 500 sheets of paper is 50 mm.

What is the mass of a single sheet of paper?
A 0.5 g                        B 5 g                           C 50 g                         D 500 g

Solution:
Answer: B.

Thickness of 500 sheets = 50 mm
Thickness of 1 sheet = 50 / 500 = 0.10 mm

Width = 210 mm
Length = 300 mm

Volume of 1 sheet = 0.1 × 210 × 300
Volume of 1 sheet = 6300 mm3 = 6300×10-9 m3

Density = mass / volume

Mass = Density × volume
Mass = 800 × 6300×10-9

Mass = 0.00504 kg = 5.04 g
